IRC

If you have GAIM or Trillian, you already have an IRC client. You will just have to enable it. If you are using Trillian click here to view a tutorial specific to you. If you are on Mac for some reason, click here for a guide for you.

Everyone else, use MIRC. The important information is that we are on EFnet, in channel #urece. Here is how to get MIRC downloaded and all setup.

  1. Download an IRC client (this guide is for MIRC).
  2. Install and open MIRC, you will see the options window. Fill out your nickname in the Full name and nickname fields. Also put jibberish as your email address. Finally, make a random alternate that will not be taken by anyone else (just in case anyone took your first choice).
  3. Expand Connect and goto Servers. Select the EFnet folder and pick “random server.”  THEN CLICK SELECT ON THE RIGHT.
  4. Goto Options- be sure that your options are the same as mine shown below.
  5. Click the Perform… button. Be sure to have perform enabled for all networks, and then type /join #urece as shown below
  6. Everything is setup. Now connect- click okay. If you want to connect you can goto File > Connect or click the lightning bolt.
  7. Give it time to connect, it sometimes will only work on the 3rd try or something.
  8. As a final change, the default font is annoying. When you are in the channel, goto View > Font. Pick a good font, and then check the “set as default channel font” box.
  9. Enjoy! In the future you will just have to open MIRC and everything will connect automagically.
